Obituary of Lillie Simmons

Lillie M. Mast Simmons Lillie M. Mast Simmons, age 79, of Millcreek Twp., went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 10, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hartly, DE on August 8, 1933, the daughter of the late, Clarence and Sylvia Byler Mast. She served as a nurses' aid at Kent General Hospital in Dover, DE and then obtained her LPN degree. She received her BS Degree in Nursing at the University of Delaware and became an RN. She attended Western Reserve University and obtained a MS in Nursing. She taught with the nursing faculty at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, VA and practiced nursing for many years at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA before retiring. Lillie was a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church and the local garden club. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, gardening and learned the Hebrew language. She is survived by her husband of 17 years, John D. Simmons, Sr., seven stepchildren: Al and Marie Detter of Millcreek, Danielle Smith (Peter) of Austin, TX, Renee Hughes (Dwight) of IN, Dan Simmons of IN, Lisa Fain of Austin, TX, Joyce Halteman (Glenn) of Schwenksville, PA, many step-grandchildren, one sister, Irene Kauffman (Herman) of Greenwood, DE, four brothers: John Mast (Lois) of Lederach, PA, William Mast (Carolyn) of Broken Arrow, OK, Clarence Mast, Jr. (Marie) of Tunkhannock, PA, Robert Mast of Greenwood, DE, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred S. Detter, one sister, Lydia Mast, and two brothers; Lawrence and Daniel Mast. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at Walnut Creek Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville, PA.
