George Skitka
George Skitka, 86, Millcreek Twp., passed away on August 14, 2012 at the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home with family at his side. He was born November 23, 1925, in Hastings, PA, the son of Basil (Wasco) and Anna (Gallo) Skitka.
While in high school, George enlisted in the Army and served with the 345th Infantry Company A in Germany as a Messenger. He received the Purple Heart for injuries received on February 8, 1945 and was honorably discharged with rank of Sergeant. On November 4, 1950, he married Ruth E. Pardee, of Barnesboro, PA. For many years, George was the mechanic at Bernie's Exxon at 12th & Parade. He enjoyed taking pictures and uploading them to his computer, recording movies on his VCR, puttering around the garage in his coveralls, and making bubble wands and bug barns for his wife and grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Ruth E. (Pardee); two sons; George A. and Daniel L. Skitka; four brothers and two sisters: Andrew, Michael, Paul, Ross, Anna, and Elizabeth; four step-brothers and four step-sisters: Steve, Tony, Charlie, Samuel, Rosie, May, Jane, and Josephine Morealli. He is survived by one daughter and two sons, Jill (Bruce) Hunt, Waterford; Eric (Shindeok Kim) Skitka, Germany; Shawn (Cynde) Skitka, Union City; and daughter-in-law, Candy (Daniel) Skitka, of Erie. George is also survived by two sisters and one brother; Marie (late Samuel) Morealli, Erie; Dorothy (Morealli) Sigler, Dauphine, PA; and Richard (Virginia) Morealli, Erie; and daughters-in-law: Gina Skitka, Mona Skitka, of Erie, and Priscilla Roess, Scottsdale, AZ. George has thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of remembrance at 12:00 noon followed by interment with full military honors at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
