Stanley Robert Skrypzak
Stan Skrypzak, 70, of Millcreek Twp. died on April 1, 2007 at Hamot Medical Center after a brief illness. Stan was born and lived his entire life in Erie.
He graduated from Cathedral Prep and then later from Gannon University with a Master's Degree in English. He taught at Mercyhurst College, Roosevelt, and then McDowell H.S. for 31 years. He served as Chairman of the English Dept. before retiring in 1999. Stan's passion revolved around Lake Erie and the Peninsula. He was a lifeguard, sailor, fisherman, and an avid boater. He was a member of Bay Harbor Marina and the S.O.N.S. of Lake Erie. He enjoyed pheasant hunting and competitive pistol shooting. He belonged to the Erie Maennerchor Club and Gem City Gun Club. He worshipped at St. Jude's R.C. Church for 40 years. He was the loving husband of Audyne "Deanie" Skrypzak for forty-five years.
Stan, "Pop-Pop", is survived by three children and four grandchildren. Dr. Mary Beth Skrypzak and her partner, Gwynne Skinner, children Lucy and Ella, of Seattle, Wash., Amy Martino and her daughter, Samantha of Media, Pa., and S. Robert "Rob" Skrypzak and his wife, Christine, and daughter Maddison, of Kennett Square, Pa. His devoted brother, Jerome Skrypzak and his wife, Alma Jean of Erie, and nephews, Jay and Steven, and a niece, Carrie, also survive him. His parents, Stanley S. and Gladys H. Skrypzak, preceded Stan in death.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Wednesday for prayers at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 West 8th St. 16505.
