Obituary of Cynthia Soltys

Please share a memory of Cynthia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cynthia "Cindy" L. Hido Soltys Cynthia Louise Hido Soltys, age 55, of Edinboro, passed away on Friday May 17th at her home. She was born on January 18, 1958 in Erie, PA, the daughter of Arline (Balla) and the late George Hido. Cindy was a 1975 graduate of General McLane High School and chosen as Faculty Choice for commencement. She began her college education at Gannon College and completed her BS degree at Pennsylvania State University in Agricultural Business with honors. While attending college she worked at York Steak House where she met her future husband, Greg Soltys. Happily married for 31 years, Greg and Cindy were a team in life including these last two difficult years battling head and neck cancer. Cindy's faith never waivered, and showed by example "we can truly do all things through Christ who strengthens us". Cindy had a special relationship with Frank's Farm Market family, and worked there with pleasure for most of her life, originally in the strawberry fields, and then in the market. Cindy was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean, PA where she taught religious education classes. She volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank for 20 years. She also volunteered at the Kid's Café after school program for many years and started the Kid's Café vegetable garden behind the Art House, and re-established the flower garden in front of the Kid's Café (St. Mary's School). She was a very active member of the Penn State Master Gardener program for 21 years, having served in many different capacities. Cindy's greatest pleasure came from her time spent outdoors, whether it be gardening, seeking out and identifying new wildflowers, and observing nature. She found tremendous joy in sharing her knowledge with others. Cindy also played volleyball and soccer from her college days onward. Survivors include her mother, Arline, and five sisters: Kathy (Doug) Hiegel of Holly Springs, NC, Rebecca Dusicsko of Girard, Loretta Hido of Sedona, AZ, Jean Vommoro of Indianapolis, IN, Brenda (Chris) Henry of Fredericksburg, VA; two brothers: Patrick (Barbara) Hido of Girard, and Mark Hido of Edinboro (Caroline Zappitelli of Conneaut, OH). Also Joseph Dusicsko of Lake City and Mark Vommoro of Fairview, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all of our dear friends who gave us an outpouring of love, cards, letters, and spiritual support during the difficult journey of her disease. Friends may call at the Dusckas Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., on Wednesday from 7-9 pm, Thursday from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm, and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Friday at St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean at 10 a.m. with Father Mark Nowak officiating, followed by burial at St. James Cemetery in Crossingville, PA. All are welcome to attend a luncheon following at the Edinboro VFW on Route 98, at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Emmaus Ministries, 345 East 9th St. Erie, PA 16503.
