Robert Donald Sonney
Robert Donald Sonney, age 85, of Johnson City, TN, died there on January 4, 2010. He was born in Erie the son of the late, Donald and Minerva Sonney.
Robert served in and retired from the US Navy enlisting the same week as Pearl Harbor. He was a boats man mate and served on a sub chaser. He was at the battle of Normandy on the U.S. Norfolk and received countless medals and commendations. He also traveled to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd to do research.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence, and is survived by two children; Susan and Robbie. He is survived by his siblings: Juanita, Gene, Ralph, Dale N., James, Dennis, and John Sonney, and many nieces and nephews.
No local visitation. Erie arrangements were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
