Roy W. Sornberger
Roy W. Sornberger, age 86, of Erie, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Hamot Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1920 in Sinclairville, N.Y., the son of the late Roy M. and Clarabelle Wilcox Sornberger. He was employed as a truck driver at Hall's Motor Freight Transit. He also owned Roy's Texaco, Mobil, Exxon, and Service. Roy most recently worked as a crossing guard for the Erie school district at several intersections until his death. Roy was an avid Bingo player and he loved automobiles. He was a member of the Zukor Club and the State Police Auxiliary. Roy attended Glenwood United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred "Millie" Ensign Sornberger; one sister, Margaret Surrena of Port Richey, Fla.; one brother, Hugh Sornberger, and his wife, Kate, of Erie; one sister-in-law, Frances Sornberger of Lake City; one daughter, Janet Myers, and her husband, Dennis, of Erie; three sons, Edward Sornberger, and his wife, Ellen, of Erie, Donald Sornberger, Sr., and his wife, Donna, of Erie, Rick Sornberger and his wife, Cheryl, of Millcreek; ten grandchildren, Brian Myers and his wife, Dawn, of Fairview, Denise Burger and her husband, Chris, of Greene Twp., Michelle Roberts, and her husband, Jack, of Stilwell, Okla., Breeanon Tomcho, and her husband, Jason, of Grand Forks, N.D., William Sornberger, and his wife, Mary, of Erie, Donald Sornberger, Jr. of Erie, Nick Verno of Erie, Nicole Verno of Erie, Ann Sornberger of Erie, and Melissia Johnson, and her husband Joseph, of Lincoln, R.I. Eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there for the funeral service on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
