Dennis W. Stratton
Dennis W. Stratton, age 61, of Harborcreek Twp., passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side after an extended illness on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Sarah A. Reed Retirement and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on March 29, 1951 in Erie, the son of the late, Donald W. and Doris Fiddler Stratton.
He was a 1969 graduate of Strong Vincent High School. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era at the American Embassy in Tehran, Iran, in charge of cryptographic operations. He was employed as an electrical engineer at many major national companies and many times was employed as a certified dive master. Dennis was a member of the East Erie Moose Club, the Siebenbuerger Club, was an advocate for clean air (a founding member of KEEP and the national organization GASP). Dennis was a member of the Presque Isle Yacht Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Harborcreek. He enjoyed sailing, swimming, gourmet cooking and wine tasting.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen L. Sherman Stratton, his step-father, Albert Schultz of North East, PA, five siblings: Denise "Dee Dee" Bowman (Loren) of North East, Doug Stratton of Millcreek Twp., Doreen Schultz of Lawrence Park, Dorey Hannah-Schwab (Dave) of Clymer, NY, Donna Reese of Millcreek Twp., three step siblings; Sarah Gunther (Bill) of North East, Bob Schultz of FL, Jane Hadzega of FL, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by one nephew, Tyler Schwab.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until time of a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. and/or a celebration wake at the East Erie Moose Club, 6060 Iroquois Ave. on Saturday, June 9 from 4 until 8 p.m. Private interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
