Lydia E. Hackenberg Straub
Lydia E. Hackenberg Straub, age 101, of Millcreek Twp. died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at St. Vincent Health Center. She was born on June 17, 1905 in Northumberland, Pa., the daughter of the late, Henry and Anna Hackenberg. She lived in the Erie area for five years after moving here from Williamsville, N.Y. Both she and her husband, who was a Baptist minister, serviced churches in Olean, N.Y., Marilla, N.Y., Erie, Pa., and Williamsville, N.Y. She spread her love within children's ministry and assisted 100's of children in finding their faith. At age 96 she was still calling on nursing homes and hospital and nursing visitations. She made hundreds of afghans which were given away to missionaries and senior citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Charles Straub, one sister, Ernestine Gaugler, and one granddaughter, Cynthia Franklin. Two daughters, Carol Franklin and her husband, Ronald, of Millcreek, Judy Cain and her husband, Ken, of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, survive her.
Friends may call at Christ United Methodist Church, 2615 W. 32nd. St. on Saturday for viewing from 1:00 p.m. until time of service there at 2:00 p.m. Private interment Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, Pa. Arrangements handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, 4216 Sterrettania Road. Memorial contributions may be made to Campus Crusade for Christ International, 100 Lake Hart Drive, Orlando, FL 32832.
