Mary Tomczak
Mary Tomczak, age 87, of Millcreek, following a long period of illness, died on the evening of Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Mary was born on September 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Elizabeth and John Chernicky. She attended McKean High School and thereafter worked briefly for the General Electric Corporation until she was married in 1944 to Alois E. Tomczak of Erie. While raising her three children, she also found the time to work as a luncheon cashier for McDowell High School in Millcreek.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John, and "Chuck" as well as by her sister Helen. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Alois E. Tomczak of Millcreek; two sisters, Eleanor and Marge; two sons, Alan Tomczak of Waterford, and Mark Tomczak of Millcreek; one daughter, Cathy DiLeonardo of Mechanicsburg, PA; daughter-in-law Patty Tomczak; son-in-law John DiLeonardo; six grandchildren, Amy, Jesse, Jason, Jennifer, Christen, and Rebecca; and by five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may call at Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday, October 13th between the hours of 2:00-4:00 p.m. and between the hours of 5:00-7:00 p.m., and may attend a service there at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14th followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church, 2401 West 38th Street at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
