Daniel P. Wertz
Daniel P. Wertz "Bags", age 44, of Ashtabula, OH, formerly of Millcreek Twp., died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at his residence. He was born on November 3, 1965 in Erie the son of Michael H. Wertz of Millcreek Twp. and the late Virginia "Ginny" Wertz.
He was a 1984 graduate of McDowell High School and served in the US Air Force in the security police from 1984-1988. He was employed for 21 years with the PA Dept. of Corrections with the rank of Sergeant. He was involved with the Elks and Moose Clubs of Ashtabula, the PA State Correctional Officers Union and coached Saybrook Little League. He always had time to play ball with all the kids which he enjoyed. He was a fun loving father, wonderful friend to many, a dedicated employee, and a loving son, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed camping and hunting on his parent's property, fishing in Canada, golfing, and working out, all with his son, Bryan. He enjoyed wrestling, teasing, and playing volleyball with his daughter, Shelby. His favorite music was 80's rock music. His most favorite times were spent at his favorite camp (Manland) which was an annual camping trip with his son and their friends. Dan had many good friends, in which he would personally nickname everyone by placing a "y" at the end of their names. He loved watching his favorite football team, Penn State.
He is survived by his wife, Janine Trebuchon-Wertz, two children, Bryan and Shelby, one brother, Michael Wertz and his wife, Lisa, his niece and nephew, Gretta and Garrett of Waterford, father and mother-in-law, Chet and Roxene Trebuchon of Ashtabula, and many friends.
Friends may call at the Zaback-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, Oh Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by a short prayer service and blessing at 8 p.m. and also at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m. and are invited to First Alliance Church on Friday at 11:00 a.m. for the funeral service conducted by the Rev. David Snyder. Private interment.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for his children's college fund or to The John Kanzius Center Research Foundation, 1001 State St., Suite 1400, Erie, PA 16501.
