Sandra L. Legenzoff Wise
Sandra L. Wise, age 67, of Cambridge Springs died Monday, June 23, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born on February 20, 1941 in Erie, the daughter of Anna Addessi and Erie Legenzoff Sr.
Sandra was a person who felt deeply. Her compassion for others was both infectious and inspiring. "A heart of gold" is how she was frequently described. Sandra's passion for art and justice were evident throughout her life. She constantly had ongoing art projects and spent the last 14 years actively opposing the Gulf and Iraq wars.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband of twenty-five years, James L. Wise, four loving children: Suzanna N. Giddings of Erie, C. Daniel Brogdon and his wife, Carol, of Martinsburg, PA, Erica M. Copeland and her husband, Ronald, of Edgewood, MD, and Geoffrey J. Wise of Gilbert AZ. Nine grandchildren also survive her: Anthony, Stephen, Daniel, Chad, Seth, Genevieve, Julia, Adam, and Beth and one great grandson, Jacob. Other survivors include her sisters, Patricia Davis and Melody Huelsebusch of Carlsbad, CA, Charlene Magaro of Enola, PA, brother, Eric Legenzoff and his wife, Kimberly, of Edinboro, and son-in-law, Donald Giddings of Cranesville Sandra taught art for fourteen years at Northwestern High School and Middle School in Albion. She served as the Education and Jobs Coordinator of the Hispanic American Council in Erie for ten years.
Sandra's significant body of art was in a number of media: primarily painting, stained glass, metal work, photography, pottery, and graphic art.
She loved time with her children, nine grandchildren, great grandson, and several nieces and nephews. Sandy will be deeply missed and always remain in the hearts of all those she has touched with her warmth and loving smile.
Private visitation. Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, PA is handling arrangements. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Erie, 7081 New Perry Highway, Erie, PA. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hispanic-American Council, 554 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16503.
