Joseph Wodarski
Joseph Wodarski, age 76, of Erie, passed away on October 30, 2009 following an extended illness. He was born on July 24, 1933, the son of the late Stanley and Helen Grabowski Wodarski. After graduating from East High School, Joe served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed fishing, camping with the Boy Scouts with his two sons, and just being with family and friends. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Vets Hospital. He was a devoted husband and father.
He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, American Legion Post 571 Wesleyville, Cursillo # 174- Knights of Columbus, 4th degree Council #11818 Sacred Heart Church, Golden Hearts at Sacred Heart, and the Erie Center on Health and Aging.
He worked in the grocery business for 42 years, retiring in 1994 from Dairy Mart as Manager. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lisa Anne, also his sisters, Dorothy Wray and Mary Jane Rebar, and brothers: Walter, John, Richard, and Raymond.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bonita Matters Wodarski, three daughters; Bonnie Jo Wodarski, Gerardine Gorecki (Ed), Jeannine Bello (Tom), two sons; Matthew and Donald Wodarski, six grandchildren: Bryan Wodarski, Jessica and Josh Gorecki, Megan Wodarski, Kevin and Bryan Bello. He is also survived by one brother, Frank, one sister, Sophie Bruno (Ralph), sister-in-law, Anna Mae Wodarski, two special nieces; Helen Wray and Rose Ann Wray, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Tuesday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on are invited to Sacred Heart RC Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. for the Mass of Christian Burial. Private interment.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Engle Scholarship Fund at Sacred Heart Church, 816 West 26th St., Erie, PA 16508 or Cursillo Movement, St Hedwig Church, 521 East 3rd St., Erie, PA 16507.
