Obituary of Fred Brown JR

Fred William Brown, Jr. Fred William Brown, Jr., 90, of Erie for the past 5 years and formerly of Homewood, IL, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2009 at St. Vincent Health Center after a brief illness. He was born November 1, 1918 in Norfolk, VA, son of the late Fred and Irene Lively Brown. Mr. Brown served with the United States Army during World War II. He was in the unit known as 'Old Hickory' during the European Theatre. He then worked for Sherwin-Williams Company in Chicago as a chemist, retiring with over 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul Community Church in Homewood, IL and he attended First Alliance Church in Erie. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and loved outdoor activities with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Melva Fay Hollandsworth Brown, a son; William Brown, a grandson; Christopher Alan Brown, and a great-grandson; Duncan Frederick Blair. Survivors include two sons; Robert Edward Brown and his wife, Rose, of Hazel Crest, IL, Jim Brown and his wife, Patti, of Erie, and one granddaughter; Sara Katherine Blair and her husband, Brian, of Erie. Friends may call at the First Alliance Church, 2939 Zimmerly Road on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until the time of a funeral service there at 7 p.m. with Pastor Dave Snyder officiating. Burial will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in Blue Island, IL. Memorials may be made in Fred's honor to the American Heart Association, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505.
