Obituary of Norbert Simmons

Norbert "Norm" A. Simmons, age 67, of Erie, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at Twinbrook Medical Center surrounded by his two daughters. He was born on March 23, 1946 in Erie, the son of the late, Leon and Theresa Simmons. He served in the US Air Force. He was employed at Hammermill Paper Co. until his retirement and then drove trucks for North American Trucking. Norm was a member of Fairview American Legion Post #742 and enjoyed fishing, his grandchildren, and teaching his daughter how to use tools for remodeling. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Robert and Thomas Simmons, and one sister, Rita Britton. He is survived by two daughters; Carol L. Oakes (Chuck), of Millcreek, Suzanne M. Simmons, of Erie, three grandchildren: Justin, Jessica, and Chelsea Oakes, one sister, Ceil Cantoni, of Erie, two brothers; Chuck Simmons, of Erie, and Jerry Simmons, of TX. Also surviving are Ricki Simmons (Cathy) of Wattsburg, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Private interment. Memorial contributions may be made to the VA Behavioral Health Unit at the Erie Veteran's Medical Center, 135 East 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504 or to Heartland Hospice, 719 Indiana Dr., Erie, PA 16505.
