Obituary of Lawrence Herman

Lawrence "Larry" W. Herman, age 90, of Edinboro, formerly of Erie, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Wesbury in Meadville, PA. He was born in Erie on July 7, 1923, the son of the late, Wilber and Alma Anderson Herman. Larry was employed in manufacturing and engineering at General Electric for 41 years, retiring in 1985. He also did service for TV, radio and electronic repair for 30 years out of his home. He was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, a charter member of Erie Family Campers and Hikers, formerly a Masonic member of Lawrence Lodge #708, F & AM, and currently a member of Oasis Lodge #416, F&AM, member of the York and Scottish Rite and the Erie Zem Zem Shrine. He enjoyed working on any type of car engine, riding motorcycles (owning many in his life-time); taking motorcycle rides on road trips with his wife and friends. He was an amateur radio operator known by, W3JTF, and a member of the Radio Association of Erie. Larry was a 30 year member of State Police of Crawford and Erie County Company #28 where he was captain for many years. He studied music at the Erie Conservatory for 12 years with Stan Oskieki on the accordion. Only one day after Larry's passing, his wife of 69 years, Alberta Schnell Herman, passed away at Wesbury. He is survived by five children: Robert Herman (Lorraine) of Edinboro, Thomas Herman of Erie, Dennis Herman (Rita) of Woodcock, PA, Charmaine Bauer of Erie, Donald Herman (Uschi) of Woodcock, PA, eleven grandchildren, many great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. for a dual visitation for Lawrence and Alberta on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. (Masonic service at 7:00 p.m.) and are invited there on Monday for prayers at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church at 10:00 a.m. for both Lawrence and Alberta. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Northwestern PA, 2507 Zimmerly Rd., Erie, PA 16506 or to the Franklin Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept., 7455 New Rd., Edinboro, PA 16412.
