Obituary of Raymond Buchan

Raymond R. Buchan Army Sergeant 1st Class Raymond "Ray" R. Buchan, age 33, of Schweinfurt, Germany, formerly of Johnstown, PA died Sunday, July 1, 2007 during active duty in Ta'meem, west of Baghdad, Iraq. He was the son of Richard and Carol Jean Buchan of Johnstown, PA. Ray was a 1991 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School, where he was one of the finest defensive ends in Southwestern, PA. He graduated from Central Texas College. He was an outstanding soldier, father, son, brother, and friend. Ray displayed an uncanny quality of humility and a genuine concern for all people. He loved football, particularly the Pittsburgh Steelers, steel head fishing at the Walnut Creek Access area in Fairview, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an outstanding Army recruiter for over four years in Erie, PA and that was when he met his lovely wife, Laura J. Hample Buchan. His two children, seven-year-old Hayden, and one year old Andrew "Andy", one brother Philip Buchan of Edinboro, and one brother-in-law, Mike Hample of Millcreek, also survive him. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, PA 16506 on Thursday, July 12 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. for a prayer service followed by a full Military Burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buchan Children's Fund, c/o PNC Bank 901 State St., Erie, PA 16553.
