Obituary of Alvena Schauble

Alvena Joan Schauble, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on February 25, 2014 at St. Mary's Home, East, where she received loving and compassionate care during the past 11 months. She was born to Carmen and Maria (Amendola) Pastore on November 7, 1921 in Erie, PA. Alvena was a 1940 graduate of East High School. In August of that same year she married Earl Schauble. She was a former member of Jepthah White Shrine and a charter member of La Sertoma. In addition to her parents, Alvena was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Taylor and Geraldine Carrick, brother, Carl Pastore, sister-in-law, Connie Pastore, and nephew, Donald Pastore. Alvena was devoted to her family, keeping them at the center of her life and deeply in her heart. She was an avid reader and a top notch baker who was known for experimenting and always creating something new, different and delicious. In many instances she shared her expertise as a gourmet cook and no one ever left her home hungry. Alvena will be greatly missed by her family, which includes her husband of 73 years, Earl Schauble; her children: Edward Schauble (Sue) of Chandler, AZ, Kathleen Pullen (Dr. Thomas) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Marilyn Schauble, OSB of Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, Erie, PA; her grandchildren: Pamela Bancroft (Justin) of Chandler, AZ, Kimberly Schauble of Gaithersburg, MD, Dr. Kyle Pullen, (Dr. Regina) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Drew Pullen (Christine) of Buffalo, NY; her great-grandchildren: James and Jacob Bancroft; Juliana Pullen, Jacob Pullen, Lauren and Ryan Mitchell; her sister, Dorothy Michali and brothers, Anthony Pastore (Marti), Paul Pastore (Dolores), and Donald Pastore (Janice); and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road, Erie, PA on Friday, February 28. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be private at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, 6101 East Lake Rd, Erie, PA 16511 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St, Erie, PA 16505.
