Obituary of Phyllis Mandeville

Phyllis Marie Mandeville, age 91, of St. Joseph's Apartments in Erie passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Millcreek Community Hospital. Phyllis was born in Detroit, MI on June 11, 1922, the daughter of the late, Joseph and Charlotte Gerwens. Phyllis met the love of her life, the late Paul T. Mandeville (deceased 1975) and were married in Detroit in 1943 and moved to Erie in 1952. She was also preceded in death by one sister Charlotte and one brother Carter. She was the mother of MaryAnne Mandeville Kozak and her husband, Dr. David Kozak of Erie. She was the grandmother to Dr. Jeffrey Kozak, Timothy Kozak (Dawn), and Jacqueline Kozak Theil (Mark), great-grandmother to Taylor and Payton Kozak, and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis lived a very beautiful life as a supportive wife of 32 years; proud, loving, and nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Phyllis was a woman of faith and family. She faithfully attended Mass at St. Joseph's Apartments, St. Patrick's Church, and St. James Church. She and her husband were one of the founding families of St. Jude Parrish. Phyllis was one who personified "the greatest generation". She was a dedicated Army wife of World War II. She established her own career in real estate both in Erie and Dallas, TX. Phyllis had many dear friends in Erie and Dallas; including her friend Bill W. of 28 years. Special prayers and gratitude go out to the caregivers of Bright-Star; especially her dear friend, Joyce, and sincere thanks for the Ministry of Deacon Chuck Adamczak. Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Jude R.C. Church, 2801 West 6th Street on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Private interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Buffalo, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber International Institute, 100 Barber Place, Erie, PA 16507 or to the Upper Room, 1024 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16501.
