Frederick Allen "Skip" Rearick of Erie, and formerly of Oil City, passed-away peacefully to join his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 16, 2014.
Skip will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and a man of great faith who loved and served the Lord with strength and selflessness. He loved everyone he met and was loved by all who knew him. He touched the hearts of many and the greatest inheritance he leaves his family is a heart to love and trust his creator.
He enjoyed family gatherings and especially enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Joan in their retirement years.
Born in Oil City in 1932 he was the youngest of three sons of Quay and Mildred (Troutman) Rearick. He graduated from Oil City High School and served in the Army Armor Corps from 1953-55. After his discharge he worked at the Wolf's Head Oil Refinery in Reno, PA and later at GTE and Verizon until his retirement. He was a skilled golfer and bowler, and also enjoyed hunting with his son, brother and nephews. Skip's greatest interest was history, and was an avid reader and student of Civil War history. He was a member of the Historic Society of Gettysburg and the American Legion where he served as the Chaplain for a number of years.
Skip will also be remembered for his humorous tales and lighthearted practical jokes.
He is survived by his wife Joan, his son Perry and his wife Patty, along with two granddaughters, Katherine and Sarah and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Quay and his wife Elaine. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother Clyde.
