Myrtle Jean Dodsworth, 87, was called to be with the Lord the 30th of September 2014. She died peacefully Tuesday evening in her daughter's home in Fairview, being surrounded by her loving family and care givers until her journeys here were completed. She was born in Erie, March 13, 1927, a daughter of the late Leonora Mowrey Weil and Isaac Weil. She was a graduate of St. Benedict Academy. She worked for the Erie Times News Co. prior to marrying and owning an optical business with her late husband, William Francis Dodsworth I. She worked part time doing the bookkeeping for their Erie Optical Co. while raising four children. She was very devote and active in her Catholic faith. A member at St. Mary's, St. Ann's, St. George's, and Our Lady of Peace Church. She attended several Masses and Novena's a day at different churches throughout the Erie community for morning, afternoon, and evening Mass celebration. A member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, she often spent nights praying the rosary and saying the Stations of the Cross to enable the church to stay open throughout the night so others could also come to pray then. As a Eucharistic Minister, she visited various hospitals and nursing facilities throughout her week to share her love of Christ with others. A member of the Erie Zukor Club and East Erie Turners, she loved to socialize and dance. She enjoyed taking trips to religious places, reading love stories, mystery books, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Linda Dodsworth Kubicek at the age of 24 and then her husband of 39 years, William F. Dodsworth I at the age of 63. She is survived by her two daughters; Kathleen Goodwill (William) and Sheila Cooney (John) whom she lived with the past 5 years and a son William F. Dodsworth II, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street, Erie, PA. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Asera Care Hospice, 1600 Peninsula Dr. Ste. 14, Erie, PA 16505.
