Obituary of Mary Papanikos

Mary Flengas Papanikos, age 83, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014. She was born in Erie on July 13, 1931, the daughter of the late Paul and Helen Flengas.
Mary was an active member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, the Ladies Philoptochos Society, and had previously sang in the choir. Mary was a constant presence with her husband at the popular family owned Taki's Restaurant at 12th and Peninsula Drive. She was a gifted book keeper, keeping track of her husband's many enterprises. Mary and her husband wintered in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she attended St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and working in her garden in her younger years. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Konstantinos "Taki" Papanikos, one daughter, Cindy Papanikos and her son, Loren. She is survived by three children, Maggie Papanikos, William Papanikos (Sharon), and Elene Papanikos; two sisters; Dena Feagley (Glenn) and Pauline Carperos (Ernie); one brother, James Flengas (Eve); three grandchildren, Nicole, Kaylyn, and Anna and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and are invited attended the Funeral Service at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. A Trisagion Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 8 p.m. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 4376 West Lake Rd., Erie, PA 16505 or the Erie Crime Victim Center, 125 W. 18th, Erie, PA 16501.
