Obituary of Lulu Allen
Please share a memory of Lulu to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lulu (Cunningham) Allen, 97, of Fairview, passed away at home on December 12, 2014. She was born on December 11, 1917 in Smithsburg, Maryland, the youngest daughter of Nellie and Harvey Cunningham.
Lou graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1935. She worked as a bookkeeper for the City of Hagerstown until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.
Lou loved to entertain and was a gracious hostess, making everyone feel welcome in her home. In 2006 she moved to Fairview where she lived with her daughter and family. Lou was an avid bridge player and met many new friends in the Erie area. Those around her learned much, inspired by her impeccable taste, fashion style, independence, and kindness. Above all she taught us how to age with grace and find happiness with family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters: Alice, Ruth, and Sadie and her brother Chester. She is survived by her son, Ronald Ward and his wife Gail of East Concord, Vermont, daughter Colleen Thomas and husband Herb, grandchildren Allison Thomas, Chris Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Karen Yirsa, and Annette Powers, five great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11am at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6851 Old Ridge Road, Fairview with Pastor Brenda Martin officiating. Arrangements were handled by the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Ringgold Maryland in the spring. Memorials can be made to the charity of ones' choice.
