Obituary of Dorothy Wyman

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Louise Wyman, age 96, of Fairview, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. Vincent's Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on July 1, 1918 to Louis N. and Louise H. Boos. She shared her happy childhood with her three siblings, Robert, Louis, and Ruth. Dorothy graduated from Pittsfield High School and studied Nursing at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. She met Bryce W. Wyman when he took a ballroom dancing class she was teaching. They married in 1939. After living in Eastern PA, Massachusetts and New York, they settled in Erie in 1966. They raised five children and were happily married for 49 years prior to his passing on October 22, 1988. She was a dynamic follower of Christ and a dedicated member of the Federated Church. All will remember her as active in the community hosting many Christian Women's Club meetings and biweekly Bible studies. Dorothy's passing will be felt by all who knew her as a gracious, generous, vibrant woman who loved the Lord and all his children. A true humanitarian, she willingly answered His call to help those in need and participated in many philanthropic endeavors throughout her life. She was involved with Meals on Wheels, the Florence Crittenden Home, served on the Board of Trustees of the Erie Home for Children and Adults, and P.E.O. Dorothy loved being a homemaker, and she was excellent at it. No waistline was safe from her culinary scheming, and no confection or cuisine was beyond her scope. Her sticky buns, molasses cookies and apple pies were legendary. Always the hostess, she made many mouthwatering meals for her large, extended family. She perfected Thanksgiving and gave new meaning to the words "dinner is ready." She was passionately committed to her family and hosted many Wyman reunions that were attended by family members from all parts of the country. She cherished these visits and her joy at being reunited with her family was evidenced by her tears of happiness and excitement. Dorothy is lovingly survived by her children, Kent Wyman (Priscilla), Leslie Wyman, Ross Wyman (Janis), Hope Barthelson (Carl) and Mark Wyman. She was much loved by her 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. They will be reminded of her every time they see a red cardinal, every time they hear the early sounds of spring, every time they gather for family dinners. Calling hours are on Friday, March 27 from 4-8 p.m. at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd., Erie.
