John L. "Jay" Carr


John L. "Jay" Carr, age 84, of Erie, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Erie Veterans' Affairs Medical Center. He was born on Dec. 22, 1924 in Central City, KY, the son of the late, Arthur and Etta Mae Holder Carr.


He served in the US Army and Navy during WWII for 13 years. He was a welder for Riley Stoker until his retirement in 1988. He was a 32nd. Degree Mason, Blue Lodge Consistory in KY and a member of the Shriners, Camel Herders, and Air Patrol. He was a member of the Maennerchor and Saga Clubs. He enjoyed golf, spending time with his family, and watching sports.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Yola Daniele Carr. He is survived by two daughters, Paula Frum (Jeff) of Erie and Mary Alice Boccio (Daniel) of Millcreek Twp, one son, John A. Carr of Waterford, three granddaughters; Danielle Boccio, Mallory and Rheanne Carr, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Anthony John Boccio, five brothers and sisters.


Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and are invited there for a prayer service on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart R. C. Church, 816 West 26th. ST. at 9:30 a.m. Interment Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 West 8th St., Erie, PA 16505.
