Obituary of Cindy Lee Vanco

Cindy Lee Engell Vanco, age 68, passed surrounded by her children on April 16, 2023. Cindy overcame a long battle with Hepatitis C after many years of treatments and she was a five year long post-liver transplant survivor.
Cindy was a lifelong resident of McKean, PA. She was an avid gardener, having beautiful flower beds from spring to fall. She also enjoyed her vegetable garden. She was best known for her dill pickles. Many enjoyed her baking, especially around Christmas, when she would gift cookies and fudge for all to enjoy. Cindy was an extremely talented quilter. She loved the art of quilting and has completed countless projects throughout the years. Before she settled down, Cindy was an adventure seeker, going on many road trips and hiking adventures. She was well known as the ‘Mountain Woman’ in the Adirondacks, hiking many miles of the Allegheny trail. She touched numerous lives as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and 4-H Leader. Cindy worked for 36 years as a Medical Technologist at Associated Clinical Laboratories. In her retirement, Cindy loved spending time quilting, making memories with her grandchildren, and enjoying lunch and dinner outings with her friends.
Cindy was born in Titusville, PA on July 6, 1954. She was the daughter of Wilmer and Lois Engell, whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Alisa (Craig) Winschel and Lincoln (Rachael) Vanco; six grandchildren, McKenzie, Dakota, and Westyn Winschel and Kaylie, Brandon, and Savannah Vanco; three sisters, Sharon (Jay) Michael, Carolyn (John) Ogden, and Karen (Jim) Proudfit; one brother, Tom (Bullet) Engell and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Road Erie, PA 16506, on Friday April 21, 2023 from 12:00 noon to 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM until the time of the service there at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Sterrettania Cemetery.
