Gramma Helen
August 30, 1938 - February 26, 2024
When I was little, I believed Gramma’s house was Magic; a bright yellow house on Reichert, where it never mattered what was going on in the world. There it was always safe, warm, full of love, and laughter and most importantly, it felt like Home.
When I was not much older, we visited Gramma in Florida. It was there I realized that it wasn’t the house that was magic, Gramma was Magic; and isn’t there something magical about a grandmother’s love? But there is none more so than our Gramma Helen.
She taught me how to play marbles and Chinese checkers. We would play Uno and spoons and her love of games became my love of games; where you play to win, but more importantly play to have fun.
She showed us that humor can be found in everyday things. Whether it was looking for your sunglasses that you were holding the whole time, making wild hats for a Survivor themed game night, or losing the head of your three-wood mid swing. She looked at me and said, “I didn’t want to use that club anyway.”
When I would stay over, she would make rye toast in that old toaster; it always burnt the edges a little. She’d say, “That’s where the flavor is.” She was right.
When you were with Gramma, there was always a seat at the table for you; even though we would have to add extra tables because there were so many of us. There was always a laugh to be had, a game to be played, or a song to dance to.
She passed her magic onto us so that we may make each other feel welcome. So that we would find the laughter in the everyday. So that we may comfort each other, play games, and dance like nobody is watching.
As we mourn her passing and celebrate a life truly well lived, we carry her Magic with us.
Remember that she is not gone, but merely gone ahead so that when we meet again on the other side, we know it will feel like Home.

Helen was one of the first parishioners of Trinity Lutheran Church of McKean to welcome our family over 40 years ago. Her Genuine compassion, acceptance of all people, encouragement to provide love and understanding to everyone. She never placed judgement upon anyone. Her sense of humor and positivity of everyday living was beyond compare. Although we mourn our earthly interaction ceasing with her passing, we celebrate knowing she rests in the arms of Our Savior. Fly high with the angels Helen, and until we meet again . God Bless ✝️, Norine Blount

Helen was a second Mom to us, as she was to so many. She welcomed us into her home and her family and we have many happy memories as a result! Helen will be dearly missed and we wish her family peace and healing as they adjust to life without her on this earth.
