Going all the way back to when we were young boys Joe inspired me so so much as he was four years older than me. I’ll mention a few like fishing, football, baseball, as we got into our teens I would tag along with Joe on the farm jobs he did. Teaching moments. Later on I also stayed in Joes footsteps into construction. Joe had a lot to do with my career path, I am forever grateful for the times we worked together. Joe and I were on the phone earlier this year talking about what we used to do in our younger years and how it pains us to pay for those things now that we are older but here we are. The memories are plentiful.

When I was told that Joe was in his last days and then his subsequent death, two memories immediately came to my mind. John and I attended Erie First Free Methodist at the same time Joe and Karen attended. I remember at Christmas time Joe singing the song entitled, O, Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. It seemed he sang it every Christmas and I never got tired of hearing his clear voice singing that not-so-familiar Christmas hymn. The other memory I have that has stuck with me for so many years is a testimony he shared about heading to work at Hamot Medical Center one morning and was frustrated with the inconvenience of a flat tire on the way. He replaced the tire and continued to his destination only to find that just before he got off the exit, he encountered a car accident. He realized then that quite possibly God allowed that flat tire in order to delay him so he wasn't the one involved in the car accident and he was able to get to his final destination in one piece. Today that testimony reminded me of Joe's illness and death. Yes, it was a GREAT inconvience to Joe and his family. But yet his death allowed his spirit to continue on to his final heavenly destination unscathed, unencumbered to meet his Heavenly Father and those who had gone on before him. If anyone reading this memory is not a Christ follower, I would encourage you to humble yourself, seek God, and surrender your life so that not only will you have peace in this life with its' inconveniences, but you will also have eternal life spending it with your Heavenly Father as well as with Joe!
