May you rest in peace Fred . So many of my childhood memories were spent at the Kern house . I remember Fred working such long days during tax season and he would come home
to a million extra neighborhood kids in the house at any given time . He would walk through the house with his brown brief case, and long trench coat and he would smile. Sometimes he would shake his head over the chaos happening in the neighborhood Kern pool, but never turned anyone away . I will
always remember his strong work ethic and unwavering love for Barb. Grateful for the countless hours I spent at Kern Corner over the years .
Thank you for accepting me as one of your own . I will
miss seeing you on our annual summer Erie visits and will
miss hearing you ask me "how's Doug's hitting em?" May you rest in peace Fred . You will be missed deeply , but I know we will
meet again . Sending Barb the biggest hug ever . I have always and will always love you both dearly for all the love and support you have given me over the years . You both provided me cherished memories on Lafayette . I will be forever grateful !

I really enjoyed my times with Fred and it was a privilege to work with him at Appletree & Kern since I joined the firm in 2008. He was always very personable and respectful and had great relationships with his clients, who were also good friends, which taught me a lot about how great of a man he was with people. He never spoke a negative word about anyone, was always trying to help his clients and was quite a character.
I enjoyed our conversations at work about various sporting events such as the previous week's golf tournaments, especially the major golf tournaments, and how he admired the athletic skill of Tiger Woods in his prime. Although the public accounting profession is really demanding, Fred always found time to enjoy the Men's & Women's Gannon Basketball games during the winter months with his brothers. For me, I'll miss our times on the golf course after our owner's meetings at Lake View Country Club and I appreciate him allowing our firm to have our annual meetings at the club.
I learned a lot from Fred over my time at Appletree & Kern and I was honored to succeed him in ownership of the firm when he decided to retire from the firm. When working on most of our mutual clients over the years, they always asked about him which shows how they felt about him. I hope to continue that legacy with these mutual clients that his legacy has left behind.
To Barbara and Family, my prayers for all you at this time. May the Grace of God help you all through your grieving process. Although it is sad that Fred is no longer here, I know that Fred is in a better place and he is hitting his drives straight down the fairway in the golf courses in heaven. God Speed my Friend.

To Barb and all of the Kern family, friends, and co-workers. My relationship with Fred goes back 50 years. The first 35 as both business and golf partner. He was very accepting when I moved back to Erie and began my career in Public Accounting.
I could always count on him for a straightforward answer to an accounting issue or how my putt might break.
